Our first Johannesburg Notes in the Margin event brought actuaries together for an intimate gathering of conversation, connection and thinking beyond the technical. With author TJ Strydom as our guest speaker, the evening offered a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at his writing process and the realities of being a writer in South Africa today. It was a beautiful atmosphere, with new and familiar faces connecting, sharing ideas, and enjoying the opportunity to engage in a more relaxed, personal setting.
We explored how artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare in South Africa, considering its potential to improve affordability, access, quality, and patient outcomes. The discussion also surfaced the ethical, regulatory, and operational complexities accompanying these advances, inviting thoughtful reflection on how technological progress can be translated into meaningful, real-world impact within our healthcare system.
