Our Consulting Actuary at Insight Life Solutions, Zane Heyl, gave an interesting and solution-based presentation at the prestigious Institute and Faculty of Actuaries conference in London.
Zane proposes that a highly intuitive solution to South Africa’s energy crisis falls in the hands of actuaries. Electric geysers account for roughly 18% of SA’s electricity demand during peak hours, consistent with over 3x the shortfall, which requires stage 5 loadshedding. Smart geyser products can manage geyser load automatically, with significant benefits to insurers and the electricity grid.
