Insight’s Winning Move in Healthcare

As Insight recently reached its 10-year milestone, the company reflects on a decade of meaningful contributions to South Africa’s healthcare industry, acknowledging this milestone under the theme “Insight with Impact.” Known for its data-driven approach to healthcare and actuarial services, Insight has helped shape healthcare governance while actively participating in social initiatives that reflect the company’s commitment to positive societal impact.

The partnership with Moves for Life is particularly meaningful as it aligns with Insight’s dedication to fostering strategic thinking, problem-solving, and resilience – values that are foundational to both actuarial science and broader educational development. Just as Insight uses data to create impactful solutions in healthcare, Moves for Life uses chess to cultivate skills essential for cognitive growth and academic success in young learners.

This flagship Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative brings transformative educational opportunities to children in under-resourced communities. The Moves for Life chess curriculum is active in over 100 schools, reaching over 31,000 learners nationwide. Moves for Life leverages chess as a developmental tool to build skills in mathematics, science, and critical life skills.

Late last year, Insight and Moves for Life launched a holiday programme at Grosvenor Primary School in Atlantis, Cape Town, where more than 104 children engaged in chess and life-skills initiatives to boost problem-solving, critical thinking, and academic growth, as  Amanda Fourie, Managing Director of Moves for Life, shared her enthusiasm: “The skills gained from playing chess translate into success in many areas of life. We are excited to bring this programme to Atlantis and look forward to expanding it to other regions in 2025.”

Expanding the Partnership in 2025

Following the impact of this initial programme and the strong support from the Atlantis community, Insight and Moves for Life plan to broaden their partnership in 2025. This expansion includes a consistent year-round programme and additional Cape Town and Johannesburg holiday sessions. There are also long-term plans to establish dedicated learning centres to offer sustained academic and cognitive support to young minds.

Leading with Purpose and Building a Lasting Legacy

Insight’s commitment to CSI is rooted in creating a long-term impact that aligns with its business ethos. Barry Childs, Group CEO of Insight Actuaries, explained the strategic alignment: “This partnership represents a major step forward in our commitment to social responsibility. By supporting these chess programmes, we’re investing in the next generation of leaders, particularly from underrepresented backgrounds. This reflects our goal to empower individuals with the skills needed for future success. This value resonates deeply with our work in healthcare and actuarial science.”

Charmaine Roux, Insight’s CSI initiative champion, added: “Chess is more than a game. It’s a platform for developing critical life skills. This partnership demonstrates the lasting impact of strategic thinking on our communities, which is core to our work and purpose.”

Chess offers more than intellectual stimulation; it fosters self-confidence, improves cognitive and problem-solving skills, sparks creativity, and promotes sportsmanship and healthy competition. These skills lay a strong foundation for future academic and personal success, equipping students with foresight, resilience, and adaptability – qualities that align with Insight’s vision of sustainable growth and strategic thinking.

Be a Changemaker

As Insight recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, the company remains focused on leaving a lasting legacy by igniting change in the communities it serves. Through partnerships like this, Insight continues to light future leaders’ paths, cultivating a generation of thinkers and problem-solvers ready to make their mark in a rapidly evolving world.
